Nestled along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain, this trail is short—less than a mile round trip—but it rewards you with incredible panoramic views. Our family of 5, with kids ages 7,9,10, love this hike. It’s a little more than a half mile out and back. The climb is slightly steep and consistent the whole way up. So while you may get your heart rate up, you don’t have to worry about loads of slippery rocks or cliffs so it’s safe for kids. The wide, flat rocks at the overlook are simply breathtaking. Plan to sit for a minute, enjoy a picnic, and take in the beauty. Beacon Heights is an easy win for parents who want to get out and explore with their kids.
